Keeping Safe in a Foreign Land

To most people, traveling to a foreign place means fun and the discovery of new places, friendly places, and exotics palates. And while this is true, tourists should also learn how to anticipate unfavorable and unforeseen circumstances that might just end up ruining the whole point of the trip.

Every traveler should know how to keep safe when in a different place. Whether you are traveling across borders, across continents, or across oceans, the rule of the thumb for every tourist is to always be aware and be sensible.

No, this is not meant to put you off and it definitely does not require you to be in a constant state of paranoia. It only means that you should take in the sights and sound of a place, while still being on your toes. Don't lose yourself in the moment. Otherwise, you'll end up losing your wallet and luggage.

What Every Traveler Must Remember

Everybody knows that tourists are a favorite target of pickpockets and thieves. Here are a few things you must remember to keep yourself and your wallet safe:

First thing you must remember is to get yourself travel insurance. You might think it's not important, but when your things get stolen and you've no one to turn to, you'll be thankful if you have one. Ask your travel agent how you can get one and keep this document safe.

The next thing you should remember is to leave your backpacks at the hotel when going through crowded areas. If you must bring a bag, choose one that can be slung diagonally across your body. Don't put all your valuables inside your bag, and make sure to keep it with you at all times, even when you're eating. Don't sling it across the back of your chair. Instead, check if the restaurants have clips under the tables for you to fasten your bags with.

The third thing you must keep in mind is to be careful not to flash your money around. Try to have your currencies converted and try to find out the general price of things. Just bring enough money with you for the day and keep the rest in the hotel safe. Also, stick with a wallet that can be worn around your neck and keep it under your shirt.

Your money should not be the only thing you leave in the hotel safe. While your hotel rooms may be locked, then again, you can never be to careful. Have photocopies of important documents such as passports, tickets, travel insurance, visas, and credit cards, and keep them in the safe. It would also be wise to deposit your gadgets in the hotel safe, when not in use.

While traveling also gives you the privilege of meeting new people and gaining friends, you should always be mindful about the people you talk to. Just be sensible about accepting rides, meals, drinks, or whatever else a stranger offers you. You should know the drill by now, even grade school kids know this.

You can also do a little background check on place before you travel. Read up on travel brochures, ask your travel agent, or just surf the web for whatever information you can get. Check for the best places to visit and the most comfortable and safest places in the area.

Traveling is always a rewarding experience - you get to immerse yourself in something different. But whenever you are in an unfamiliar place, be sure to keep your wallets like your designer wallets and your checkbook wallet in check. Visit ExecutiveGiftShoppe.com today.
